What to expect

Your treatment, start to finish

What it feels like

Firmer than a relaxing massage and very rhythmic. The wooden tools are shaped to follow the contours of the body, and the pressure is worked up gradually to what you are comfortable with. Tell Mia at any point if you want it lighter.

What it helps with

It is the treatment to book if you want to feel firmer and more toned, particularly around the legs and tummy, and it gets the circulation moving. Results build with regular treatments rather than arriving in one session.

After your treatment

Some redness or tenderness in the treated areas is normal and usually settles within a day or two. Drink plenty of water and avoid a heavy gym session the same day.

Questions

Wood therapy massage, answered

What is wood therapy massage?

Wood therapy, sometimes called maderotherapy, is a body massage using hand-shaped wooden tools instead of only the hands. Firm, repeated strokes are used to smooth and tone the body and to stimulate circulation.

Where can I get wood therapy massage near me?

If you are in Burnley, Padiham, Accrington or Hapton, The Wellness Edit is close by. Mia works from Michelle Green, Bentley Wood, on Accrington Road in Hapton (BB11 5QH), a couple of minutes from junction 9 of the M65. That is about 5 minutes from Padiham, 10 from Burnley or Accrington, and 15 from Clitheroe, Great Harwood and Rishton.

How much is wood therapy massage in Burnley?

At The Wellness Edit in Hapton, full body wood therapy is £40, and a full body treatment finished with an aromatherapy back, neck and shoulder massage is £55.

Does wood therapy massage hurt?

It should not. It is firmer than a relaxing massage, and the pressure is built up gradually to what you are comfortable with. Some tenderness afterwards is normal, and you can ask for lighter pressure at any point during the treatment.

How many wood therapy sessions will I need?

It works best as part of a regular routine rather than as a one-off, so most clients book a course. Mia will talk through a realistic plan at your first appointment.

How long does a wood therapy massage take?

Full body wood therapy is an hour and a half, and full body finished with an aromatherapy back, neck and shoulder massage is 1 hour 55 minutes. Time is left between clients, so nothing is rushed.

Is wood therapy the same as lymphatic drainage?

No. Wood therapy is firmer and uses wooden tools. Lymphatic drainage massage is very light and rhythmic, and is aimed at easing puffiness and fluid retention. If you are not sure which one to book, ask Mia.
